The Making of the Guest-Inspired Steakhouse Bacon Whopper

This month, Burger King introduced the Steakhouse Bacon Whopper – the latest innovation inspired by Guests. It all started last year with the Million Dollar Whopper contest when BK asked fans to submit their dream Whopper creation, leading to millions of submissions and the launch of three delicious Guest-created Whopper sandwiches in restaurants nationwide.

And now, our brand and culinary teams continue to be inspired by Whopper-lovers and their ideas, bringing the Steakhouse Bacon Whopper to life after discovering that a Steakhouse flavor profile is one that resonated with fans.  “In general, we are really excited about the idea of bringing new news to our flagship, the Whopper,” said Alexandra Blasch, Director of Brand Marketing at Burger King. “We tested the Steakhouse Bacon Whopper a couple months ago and saw that there was a lot of excitement for the flavor, and so it seemed like a natural next choice to bring nationally.”

This Guest-inspired Whopper flavor has undergone significant testing and development by the Burger King team to make sure it was ready for prime-time. This flavorful and elevated build contains well-loved Steakhouse flavors including A.1. sauce, crispy onions, bacon, Swiss cheese, creamy peppercorn aioli, lettuce and tomato. Charlotte Zuber, Manager of Product Development for Burger King, brought this build to life in the test kitchen of the Burger King headquarters in Miami, FL.

“We’ve seen success in the past with A.1., so we definitely wanted to include it on this build,” she stated. “And then this peppercorn aioli has a lot of umami, garlic, and the peppercorn has a nice light kick”.  Charlotte described the notes of the ingredients within the Whopper build and described how carefully balanced the flavors are to create the perfect beefy and sophisticated Whopper bite.

The teams dedicated to bringing LTOs to life are closely listening to Guests so they can enjoy special and relevant menu items, their way. As the year continues, we’re excited to see new Guest inspired creations served at Burger Kings across the nation.
